Fabric Transparency

The Cotton Pledge

Our commitment to what goes on your skin — written down, held to, and never compromised.

Our Founding Commitment

"At Gurl Brand, we prioritize cotton. Not as a trend — as a standard. The majority of our garments are made from 100% pure cotton, and every piece we make is fully transparent about what it's made from. No hidden blends. No misleading tags. No fine print."

Gurl Brand Cotton Pledge

The Science

Why Cotton Matters

🌬️

Breathability

Cotton's natural fiber structure allows air to circulate freely against your skin. Synthetic fabrics trap heat and moisture — cotton releases it. Your body regulates temperature naturally when it's not fighting a polyester barrier.

🦠

Bacterial Resistance

Synthetic fabrics like polyester harbor bacteria and trap odor. Cotton's natural properties are more resistant to bacterial buildup, making it a cleaner choice for all-day wear.

🌊

No Microplastics

Every wash of a synthetic garment releases thousands of microplastic particles into waterways. Cotton is a natural fiber — it biodegrades. It doesn't leave a plastic trail behind it.

🧬

Skin Compatibility

Cotton is hypoallergenic and gentle on sensitive skin. Synthetic blends can cause irritation, rashes, and disrupt your skin's natural microbiome. Cotton works with your body, not against it.

♻️

Biodegradable

Unlike petrochemical-based synthetics, cotton returns to the earth. A 100% cotton garment will biodegrade. A polyester blend will sit in landfill for hundreds of years.

📋

Full Transparency

We list every fiber on every product. If it's 100% cotton, we say so. If a garment uses any other material for construction or performance reasons, we disclose that clearly — always.

In Practice

What This Looks Like

The majority of Gurl Brand garments —

are crafted from 100% pure cotton. This is our default. Our starting point. The standard every new style is held to.

When a design requires additional materials —

for structural, technical, or performance reasons, we use them transparently. Fabric content is always listed in full on every product page.

We do not use the word "cotton" loosely —

A garment described as cotton-focused or cotton-forward will always be predominantly cotton. We never use cotton as a marketing term divorced from reality.

We never hide blends in fine print —

Every fiber percentage is disclosed upfront — in the product description, on the label, and whenever you ask us.

We source responsibly —

We prioritize suppliers who share our commitment to natural fibers and ethical manufacturing. Our cotton standards extend beyond the garment to how it's made.
